As the country continues to feel the pinch, Waltham Forest Council has announced a ten-point plan to ease the strain on local residents and businesses.
In a move to support the local economy and lighten the load on homes, changes have been made to a variety of services, from the Council's payment methods to leisure and training facilities.
"In times of economic uncertainty, it is even more vital that the Council provides not only excellent value for money in each of our services, but critical support for those who need it most," said Cllr Keith Rayner, Cabinet Member for Finance, Risk and Governance.
"As an authority, we have worked to identify ten key areas where we can support the local community through this time."
Support for local businesses
To support the local economy - namely the smaller, independent organisations through the borough - the Council has announced two key changes.
Council payments are now being made to all small local businesses within ten working days in a bid to increase trade; while support is now also available for businesses looking to bid for council contract.
"I think this is a positive step by the Council," said Fawaad Shaikh, Managing Director of Leytonstone Business Improvement District Company. "It could prove to be a great help to survive in the current economic climate, which is more severe for smaller businesses."
